ONE-STOP COMMUNICATIONS ANSWERS THE
CALL TO RECYCLE RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES.
LEWISTOWN, PA – One-Stop
Communications has partnered with a national program
called Call2Recycle that helps consumers conveniently
recycle their used portable rechargeable batteries
and cellular phones.
One-Stop Communications is providing consumers
with an easy way to recycle their old cellular phones
and their used small, dry cell, portable, rechargeable
batteries. Nickel Cadmium (NiCd), Nickel Metal Hydride
(Ni-MH), Lithium Ion (Li-ion), and Small Sealed
Lead* (Pb) batteries are commonly found in cellular
and cordless phones, laptop computers, cordless
power tools, two-way radios, camcorders, remote
control toys and a variety of other portable electronic
products.
When the rechargeable battery can no longer hold
a charge, it can and should be recycled. In 2005
roughly 200 million cell phones will be in use in
the United States, and approximately 130 million
phones will be retired each year. The average American
cellular phone user has a total of 3 or more cellular
phones and 5 cordless electronic products in their
possession. Consumers can simply drop off their
used rechargeable batteries and old cellular phones
at One-Stop Communications and it will be collected
for recycling.
One-Stop Communications and other retail stores
in the U.S. and Canada are working in cooperation
with the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Cooperation
(RBRC), a nonprofit public service organization
that operates the Call2Recycle program. By participating
in the program, One-Stop Communications is helping
conserve the earth’s natural resources and
prevent rechargeable batteries and cellular phone
from entering the solid waste stream.
“Retail participation is a crucial
part of our program because it puts us in touch
with consumers,” says Norman
England, RBRC President. “Retailers
such as One-Stop Communications are making rechargeable
battery and cellular phone recycling a reality and
that’s great for the environment.”
The batteries and cellular phones One-Stop
Communications collects will be processed
at a recycling facility. Useful material can then
be reclaimed to make stainless steel products and
new rechargeable batteries. Cell phones will be
recycled or refurbished and resold when possible,
with a portion of the proceeds benefiting select
charities. Phones that cannot be refurbished are
recycled in a sound manner. All rechargeable batteries
are consolidated and sent to the reclamation facility
for recycling.
One-Stop Communications also collects
computers, monitors and computer related equipment
for the Skills of Central PA computer recycling
program. “We are very excited
to offer these two electronic recycling programs
to the public,” say Michael
Buffington, owner of One-Stop Communications. “Everyone
must do their part to help protect our environment
and we hope to start making it a little easier.”
