ONE-STOP COMMUNICATIONS JOINS ‘SKILLS’
FOR CLEAN ENVIRONMENT.
LEWISTOWN, PA –
Skills of Central PA, Inc. and One-Stop Communications
announced today that the Lewistown electronics store
situated at 126 Electric Ave is the newest drop-off
location for recyclable computer equipment. Area
residents may drop off old computer related electronics
on Monday-Thursday 9-6; Friday – 9-7 and Saturday
-2.
Effective June 27, 2005 , One-Stop will be collecting
obsolete computer electronics including computer
monitors, printers, keyboards, mice, scanners, CPUs
and other small consumer electronics related to
your computer. Terminals (monitor and disk drive
combined units) and Apple monitors will not be accepted
at this time. One-Stop will still continue accepting
cellular phones through it’s existing phone
recycling program.
One-Stop Communications owner Mike Buffington explains,
“What better solution can we provide
than this wonderful recycling program recently offered
through our local Skills workshops.”
He adds “We can prevent
hazardous materials from leaking into our land and
water supply, and provide work opportunities for
people with disabilities.”
As a member of the Mifflin County Chapter of Pennsylvania
Clean Ways, Buffington is aware of the effect from
discarded electronics and related components containing
hazardous materials, he added. Cathode ray tubes
(CRTs), circuit boards, batteries, and mercury switches
contain hazardous materials, such as lead, mercury,
cadmium and chromium can leak into a community's
water supply. So, when Skills offered free recycling,
he immediately contacted the Skills Juniata office.
“We hope this new service will
build momentum for recycling and a cleaner environment,”
adds David M. (Mike) Rice, Skills president and
CEO. “This state-of-the art training
for people with disabilities creates opportunities
and helps us achieve the Skills’ mission.”
